Java is not needed for the majority of operations in OO, if you want a fast OO consider using one of latest versions (3.x) and follow tweaks suggested

here, others available... 3 seconds on a cold start, 1-2 on a warm startup... btw my portable OO 3.1 has 242mb on hdd and not 500 (my 2 cents for this discussion).
