Rusty, Hellnoire does use Linux. He has it installed on different machines but often has a dualboot with another OS as you need windows for all that compatibility bull$hit.

I use Ubuntu ALL THE TIME, right now i am running it, i have been using for ages.

If you have trouble hellnoire isn't the only person you ask.

Hahahahaha, someone seems to forgot: in the IT industry, you must know your enemy like you know your ally. I might be very good with Linux and it might be a powerful OS, but I do need Windows, as much as I rag on it. I need it for my wireless and my webcam.

Also, my IT teachers are telling me it works fine via dual boot, it doesn't upset Vista at all. And every vender worth their weight will tell you to beta test on a machine that isn't used or is a virtual PC. Since I have neither on me, I'm willing to risk Vista for the cause (if it dies, I've got Ubuntu on the laptop anyway.)

Now Bill can kiss my A$$. i think they owe it to us VHP users to give us 07 free. All 07 is and i have used it is a lighter version of vista with less bugs. Still has alot of services running. The only reason it takes less HDD space to install is some of the MS programs are web based

yeah i am pissed. They kno all of us that HATE vista will RUN to the store and drop 300 on the new OS. When they should DEBUG vista first. HELL SP2 is still a beta for VHP

vista is what jsu tover a year old. And they have a totally new OS. 07 is thier attempt to make good for vista, and still make $$ off us
I think i have 1 VHP update on this PC and that is SP1 that came with it. But i have more MS office and WMP updates than i can count.

MS wants to WHINE that MAC is picking on them in the Mac/PC commercials. Well MS STOLE the Mac Os and named it Windows
I know, I know. Don't worry. That's why I went to Linux, because of all this Vista crap. Right now I'm forced to use it because it's on the laptop. But I'm dual booting with Ubuntu, so my sanity is still there. I need to either wait for the wireless and webcam to work under Linux, or hire a programmer, since drivers aren't made for either of them.

But i will D/l 07 final and try it. i have the beta but got tired of uninstalling everytime anew version came out.
May GOD help me i will try to dual boot Vista/07 on this laptop and put 07 back on the XP x32
I do not even know how to do a virtual machine or where to get the software so I'll probably crash it
Virtualbox. I'll say nothing more then that.

YES 07 is a sore spot with me. i still think we should add a Vista or at least a Win 07 thread to this forum. There are more of us and XP users than there are of linux users. i mentioned before we needed an 07 thread, but the idea was shot down. Well here it is Boys n Girls and there will be needing support
Ho many people have come in looking for Vista help and only a couple peep answered thier posts. There will be more coming for 07!

07 Beta has been out what 6 mos and ready for retail next year. No bugs there i bet LMAO All the Beta was was a way for the users to debug it for MS. since we have all kinds of configs.
There might not be many Linux users, but have you noticed most of us are high up in our tech skills? It's not an elitist thing I'm trying to point here, but if you use Linux, you tend to learn an operating system faster after that. Most people have no issues with it, but at the same time, I see too many people having issues with Macs. Perhaps we should open a Mac subforum too?

Vista is a buggy OS that Microsoft itself barely supports, it's shoved it out as a bastard child (and for those who take this as cursing, it means a fatherless child too), left to fend for itself. We don't know much because every day there's a new bug with Vista.

XP is stable and well supported, Vista is unstable and unsupported. Out of the two, I'm hoping with 7, they'll bring back their wide support. If not, then oh well. I'm still tempted to use 7 so I can remain up to date on it.

i say DEBUG Vista first then put out 07. i'd love vista if it weren't for all the bugs. i find software all the time that i cannot use that is not Vista x64 compatible but yet it is for 07 and 07 is a beta. HTF can they put out a soft for a beta Os

But in some fairness part of my vista issues is from using the wrong utilities. Sorry since it is Windows Vista. i thought when it said "windows" compatible that included Vista. SILLY ol SA me, i know better now. The other half of my problems is HP not updating thier drivers or softs for thier programs.
Just tonight i found an update for my fingerprint scanner from HP, and i found it from some web page about FF and fingerprint scanner updates for FF. So i installed the update now my fingerprint scanner does nto operate
Tomorrow i am buying XP pro x64 like i should have dome months ago. Enough for nwo until i get booted for Bi&*&%$@ too much
HP never updates, nor does Gateway. Believe me, I know the issue there. I've had to use driver programs to try and keep them updated but it's sometimes more of a hassle then what it's worth. I much prefer the Linux way: if it doesn't work on the get go, and if it's not found in Google, it will not work. Period.

Hellnoire seriously i'll try to find that link. i dont want your machine crashing. Evn if you did switch to vista and leave me as a linux virgin
Doesn't matter to me. Like I said, I'm using both Vista and Ubuntu Linux. Out of the two, I support Ubuntu more, hence you see my sig. But I admit, sometimes I need Windows, for a game (which was why I came on this time) or for the girlfriend.

What I mean is that I hate Vista, love Ubuntu, and use both.

Closer to my personal opinion, yes.

I use Ubuntu ALL THE TIME, right now i am running it, i have been using for ages.

If you have trouble hellnoire isn't the only person you ask.
Indeed. We have Sai, Brayden, Lunar, and myself. And that number is growing, no doubt I forgot our newer ones (in post amount).

Ubuntu is most times my OS of choice. I do all my creative writing under it, I've been learning how to design basic webpages under it, I use it on my home server, it's pretty much an all-in-one OS, I use it for everything. But Act of War doesn't work under Wine, and neither does Halo or Urban Assault. Keep in mind, these also don't work under Vista.

If and when I get my webcam and wireless working under Linux, you'll never see me run Windows again, except via virtual PC. And believe me when the girlfriend and I agree: No Windows when we move in together. We'll be using Linux. And she's willing to learn with my help.

PS: Sorry for the rant, I thought I'd let you know my thoughts.

And I will not be touching ubuntu until I get that stuff from torrent. And I am going to college for one year where there is no ubuntu on my laptop. So I am sorry....

First time I have installed Windows 7 this evening. Faultless installation which took about 35 minutes for me. Fast boot up and shut down and during use it seems quite responsive. So far I am impressed with it. It is miles better than Vista although it has the same feel as Vista.

    Installed software so far:

    Kaspersky Beta 8.0.0.1081
    Spywareblaster
    Roboform 6.9.94
    Ccleaner 2.19.900
    Lavasoft Ad Aware Anniversary Edition
    Flash Player 10

All the above seem to be working fine so far but time will tell I guess..
