how to partition drive which as data already
I've a 160 gb HDD with 4 partition with approximately 40 GB each C,D,E,F
now i want to covert my F drive(40 gb) partition into two 20 GB partition.
my all other drives are full and F has 10 GB data. so my question is can convert my 40 GB F into two 20 GB partition without moving , deleting, backup.
MY OS in windows XP SP3Save Trees. Print only when necessary

First install EASEUS Partition Manager and open it > then right click on F > select Resize/Move > decrease Partition Size to 20 GB > click OK, Apply > then you get some Unallocated space, right click on that and select create.

So no data would be lost using this software. really confirm.
This tool is looking cool and free too : http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm.
I will use this for partition but . what u wrote is possible with free version. and is this thing can be possible with window's own Diskmgmt.mscLast edited by jitendra.web; 02-18-2009 at 05:57 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I'd used EASEUS Partition Manager many times and I'd no problem with that.
It's not possible with Diskmgmt.msc.
BTW, it's better to defrag HDD before creating new partitions, so that all data is stored at the beginning of the existing partition.Last edited by Sai Charan; 02-18-2009 at 06:10 PM.

Gparted (frm Ubuntu) or Gparted live CD can do tht I guess. Once I had modified NTFS partition using gparted, Windows ran a chkdsk during boot and then everything was fine.
If I was in your place, I'd follow the safest way by arranging an external drive temporarily from any of my friends because 40 GB ain't that big for transferring.Happy To Help

I agree with Prashanthpai because when the drive have data you cannot merge. If the drive full you should copy data to external drive temporarily and then merge. It the safe way
