How do you recommend we do so?
I would of thought that this is something we will inherit. By this I mean that if the manufacturers start producing greener products without impacting on the performance of the products, then we've become 'Greener' without even realising it.
I think it will be too hard to so on an individual level, because the choice of such products is limited, and the prices are much higher !
Looking it from another perspective, that of usage, then things like shutting down when you are not using your pc, and not having unrequired external devices such as hard-drives running if you are sparingly accessing them.
There was a time when I had 5 external drives running. But I soon replaced those with a larger internal disk.
So I've just identified 3 core areas:
- Products which run natively in a greener way (such as new LCDS as apposed to old CRT monitors). This is our choice for choosing to use such products.
- Measured consumption and wise usage of hardware.
(Stop running those SETI crap)
- Smarter devices and software. Such as software (i.e. MS Windows) to assist with 'greener' usage, such as turning off hardware when not in use after a certain amount of idle time.

Yes i am going to contribute by recycling. i noticed that after you dispose of the actual food waste EVERYTHING is recyclable. After using the gargabage disposal i and using my recycle bin i noticed that i almost never had to take out the trash lol. All these empty spray cans of cleaner containers are all recyclable. i rarely use the harsh cleaners anymore due to allergies and all the carcinogens in them. for years my father had bad asthma in this house. We finally figured out it was the fire retardents they treated the carpets with. but everytime he comes to visit he cannot breath his eyes get red and water badly. When he leaves he is good as new. So there are lots of reasons to go green. Its a hassel at first but after a lil while it becomes second nature
i know somone that installed the solar panels on thier roof. These are the good ones they look like the roof itself all flat and nice looking. it took a few years but now he sells the electricity back to the city. AND the cost of having them installed was offset by what he saved on the utility bills My largest contrubution to the enviroment is to trash this vista running P O S and get the mac that can be recycled
Seriously a lil known fact is that totally shutting down yourr pc saves about 600$ a year in energy costs. Think about all the stuff runiing in you home that NEVER turns off but uses minute amounts of electricity. LED clocks the router is always on. The filter and air pump on the aguarium the fridge. Of course some of these cannot be turned off. i leave the TV on 24/7 and even just shutting down the pc still uses bits of power that add up it really should be unpluggged. Alot of this we will not nor cannot do but think about how all that adds up. My great grand kids may not be able to go fishing w/o some moon suite to protect them from the sun lol
