Windows 7 RC to be released on April 30th

News from Windows 7 team blog:

"There certainly has been a lot of discussion about Windows 7 in the last few weeks. A lot of folks want to know when they can get their hands on the official RC, when we are going to RTM, and what I had for breakfast.

I’m pleased to share that the RC is on track for April 30th for download by MSDN and TechNet subscribers. Broader, public availability will begin on May 5th.

On behalf of everyone here, I would to thank all of our beta testers for helping us get to this point. You guys have been busy. At the peak of the feedback cycle, we were receiving a “Send Feedback” report every 15 seconds for an entire week. Since then, the engineering team has been busy analyzing the feedback, fixing bugs, and working hard to improve the overall experience. Many of your suggestions helped us refine the new and improved taskbar, the behavior of Aero Peek, Touch, Windows Media Player, and much more. In case you have missed the previous E7 blog entry outlining some of these changes in detail, you can read about them here and here.

Be sure to check back with us next week… And by the way, I had eggs for breakfast :-) "

Microsoft should come up with a neater and snappier UI instead of shipping Windows 7 with a tweaked Aero again.
Also, the glassy looks don't make the UI more productive. The OS is sure to run faster with Normal UI (like the Human UI in Ubuntu).

I don't see the revolutionary changes in the new OS which I had thought of. Of course there is a Multi-touch feature but it is of no use to 99% of users. Rest other new features are blunt.

Windows 7 is just a Tweaked and fixed Vista, from what I can see now.

Just read that Microsoft is going to introduce a new feature in Windows 7 called Windows XP Compatibility Mode (XPM).

This new feature essentially virtualizes the legacy Windows XP operating environment within Windows 7. That is, users will be able to install all applications that were previously only fully working with Windows XP, on their Windows 7 desktop without having to resort to a dual-boot solution

This will make it easier for companies and individual users to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 because all of their existing applications will work. This will ensure that Windows 7 will be fully compatible with both Windows Vista and Windows XP.

I guess this new feature might help to solve those incompatibility issues that has been bugging vista users who upgraded from XP or those XP users who are ready to upgrade to WIndows 7 when it comes out
