BIOS update
So here is the deal,
I want to update my BIOS(BIOS type American Megatrends Inc.) on Windows XP but i heard that you only need to update BIOS if you have a problem but i want to update my system for better performance.
My motherboard is Asus K8N Socket 754 and the current BIOS version is 1008.
I want to now if anybody had problems in the past, how can i update BIOS with
a CD and is it safe to update to i higher version like 1010 or even 1011 so called
Patch EZ-Flash.
Any help would be appreciated.Last edited by Glisa; 06-06-2009 at 10:58 AM.

I updated my BIOS using the desktop updater which I got direct from ASUS. You just have to ensure that you disable your antivirus and any real time protection anti spyware software to prevent any issues during the update. Like you there was no need really to update my BIOS but as you stated for better performance. I also did the same for my Toshiba laptop again using the desktop updater. No issues there either. Hope this helps.

This is part of the manual how to update BIOS that I downloaded from manufacturer's site for my BIOS update. It worked with no problems for me.
Hope it will help you as well.
Requirements:
BIOS updates need to be run from a bootable floppy disk. An
external USB Floppy Drive is required.
In alternative to the floppy one, it is possible to use a bootable USB flash drive
(Pen drive) to update BIOS as well.
Update BIOS with floppy disk:
1. Extract the zip file containing the BIOS file and flash utility to a bootable floppy disk.
2. Insert the bootable floppy disk in the external USB floppy disk drive.
3. Boot up the notebook form USB floppy disk drive.
Make sure the AC adapter is firmly connected to your notebook before
you run this utility.
4. Execute the batch file flash.bat and press <Enter> key at DOS prompt A:\>.
5. Wait for a couple of seconds to complete the BIOS update procedure.
DO NOT power off the notebook during this BIOS update process.
6. Power off the notebook after the BIOS update procedure is completed.
7. Remove battery pack and AC adapter.
8. Plug in battery pack or AC adapter.
9. Power on the notebook and press <Del> key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
10. Select [Load Setup Defaults] and press <Enter> key to load BIOS default settings.
11. Select [Exit &Save Changes] and press <Enter> key to save changes and exit.

What is the name of that desktop updater?
Jockers advice was good but i don't have a floppy or a USB flash drive besides
as6670 was easyer and there is no too much risk involved.
I would also want to know is it safe to update to a such high version like 1010 or 1011 and not going step by step?

I've always updated my 2 Dell's by downloading the file to desktop and printing of the procedure and running it.I never had any problems doing it that way.

I paused protection on my KIS software just like he told me to and it worked great,i updated to a
1011 version with no problem.
