    Opening programs problem, please help.

I was trying to open an application when it asked me to choose something to open the program with. I tried WinRar, it didn't work but worst of all. Now every time I try to open a program it tries to open with WinRar, and of course, it doesn't work.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Nightingale,

Just right click of mouse on the file and choose open with > choose program > in that window unclick the option always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

And for opening anykind of application it's necessary to have an idea of kind of application or at least extension of that application to suggest something, or in other way you can windows suggestion to open that kind of application.

and you have a file you don't know how to open? Think you need an expensive piece of software to open it? Chances are there is a great free program that's just as good as the expensive one, and you'll find it http://www.openwith.org

Thanks to both of you, but neither way really works because it even asks me what application to use when I try to start a setup. And obviously I have no idea what application to use. And even if I do it would be troublesome to this when opening every program. Usually unless my computer can't read the data of a file, it usually opens the problem with a easy double click. Anyone know a way out of this?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot for the help guys but I'm beginning to suspect if my problem is a file extension problem at all. When I try to open a .exe file, it normally opens up with an easy double-click. Now it asks me what to open the program with? What am I going to choose? Notepad?

Don't remember, the file was probably downloaded years ago. But it always asks me no matter what file I open. I try the right-click then "open with" method but some files just don't have "open with" when you click on them. I'm considering reformatting, there's probably a dozen virus on this computer anyway.
