Confused windows installer will not work in safe mode

I recently tried to uninstall KIS 2010 in safe mode and i received the message "windows installer will not work in safe mode

The only virus detected through Avira premium is TR\Retesser.b this is a Kasp trial resetter but no info available for it on Avira virus site. On KASp virus site it's Troun.Win32.retesser.b and no real info

i used this for along time before it was listed as a virus so I think its a false+

I see no processes listed due to this file.

One more question which i sort of mentioned in another post. I just got the PC back from Geek Squad for a complete restore and optimization. i installed AV soft and spyware. then installed Tune-UP utilities 2009 but never set it up just installed. A Couple days later when i went to set it up TUU 2009 had deleted 200+ registry keys. since i did not run the reg or trash scan there was no back up taken Since then i have had a BSOD and a few other lil quirks

So i am wondering could Tune up utilities have deleted registry keys it thought i would not need since it was a fresh restore? i know TUU2009 created an issue when i tried to install MS Office but i was able to correct that. Also all restore points after that install failed.
So could windows installer not working in safe mode be a result of some Tune up utilities error or this "supposed virus"
Unfortunately i ran CCleaner and the dump file for the blue screen was deleted

I am about to F11 but do not want to mess up the optimization that Geek Squad did

i am infamous for trying new programs but i have been very careful on what i installed. The BSOD happened after the installation of TUU2009 but has not happened since. Maybe i turned something off in MSconfig??

i am very puzzled. Any ideas?????????

    One idea...uninstall TuneUp Utilities 2009.

It is considered as a good registry cleaner/ optimization software by many but trust me, you are not the 1st to get a BSOD due to TuneUp Utilities 2009. There are many others who have had similar experiences as you. This is what they meant when experts say that registry cleaning is dangerous.

From my own experience, the only registry cleaning tool that is reliable is CCleaner. It's not perfect but it is the safest I have used so far. Trust me, I have tried many registry tools (including commercial ones) but CCleaner has always been my choice. It doesn't 'detect' as much entries like others but in this case, LESS is MORE.

Back to topic, I really meant what I said.

First of all, uninstall TuneUP Utilities.

Next, remove Kasperky using any one of the following:
    1. Try to uninstall Kaspersky using CCleaner.
    2. If CCleaner doesn't work for you, try to remove Kaspersky using AppRemover (although it does not support the removal of the latest version, you might want to try it)
    3. If AppRemover doesn't work for you, you can try Revo Uninstaller. BUT be EXTRA CAREFUL. Some users complained that removing Kasperksy using Revo can cause trouble in the future.

Once you have removed Kaspersky, do a scan using CCleaner and check before you delete any registries. Check in MSConfig that there is no Kasperky in the start-up list.
They call me the mysterious one...
my motto is...when it's hot, chill baby

yeah, how could i forget kasperky's own removal tools? Dumb of me. Rusty, try KAV Remover first before you do what I said earlier. Download it from here:

I removed tune Up 09 like the next day. Now with the way the PC has acted and that TUU009 deleted registry keys from a fresh recovery i am thinking it has done something to the machine.

I used CCleaner to uninstall both TUU009 and Kasp had to try acoule times with Kasp 2010 kept hanging up and leaving bits that even the KASP remover would not remove So i had to reinstall KASp 2010 a few times until CCleaner go it . So SafeGuy you're right CCleaner has issues with KASp

Now i am using AVira Premium Security looking for a promo for it lol

Shouldn't i be able to install and uninstall in safe mode?

What about the other 2 so called viruses. How can i tell if they are real or False +. They went unnoticed by KAsp for along time and it is a Kasp tool to reset the trial. Now several AV have picked this up under their own name. i wish i could get Ray in on this Since it could be real viruses or a TUUP error and how to fix it

Really not sure what to do I did mess with MSconfig but nothing that should keep Win Installer from working in safe mode

i am afraid to just F11 the Pc. i would loose very little since i have not even installed th original back up yet. But i do not want to loose the stuff Geek Squad did.

Back to the original subject. Windows installer should work in safe mode correct?. i never use safe mode unless the Pc will not boot to windows. How to fix the issues going on and was it TUU009 or these so called viruses

BTW thanks Guys stick with me on this . It seems the forum has grown so big posts get ignored or lost due to so many posts per day. And i cannot keep trying to post to keep this one on top lol

Actually, you should not even use Kaspersky Trial Resetter or even if you do you shouldn't be telling us about it(obvious reasons). Since you insist, why not go to VirusTotal and scan the Kaspersky Trial Resetter? Look at the results and decide for yourself if it is worth the risk.

As for Windows Installer, I believe it works in safe mode. Try it for yourself or do some Googling. And if you think MSConfig might have caused some problems, re-enable one by one (or drastic move is to re-enable all of them) and see if it makes any difference.

i think in safe mode the windows installer service is disabled. just try to start it and try to install.
go to run and type services.msc and look for windows installer and right click it and select start.

virus total stated the hash and MD5 which i have NO idea what it it lol. And other AV's that had detected it. Last time i looked it up under another virus scanner Forgot the name but it stated the obvious And
1 opens a process( Which is the file itself I checked)
    2 stopped other processes(KAV/KIS)

Will see if i can dupe the results to get the website that gave the most info THANKS

Oh yeah tried googlin the installer issue and all i could find was for XP not a definitive answer for Vista x64. Cannot be an MSconfig issue cuz it installs in regular mode. Am thinking i need XP pro. i'll get more info on this matter and check back in the mean time. If anyone finds anything LET ME KNOW
