I hate Symantec to the bone.

I never visited Symantec in the last 7 years. I don't really know how Symantec site works. I have heard some good things about Norton 2010 AV. Today, I go to Symantec site to download Norton 2010 AV trial. It asked for my personal information and my credit card? WTH? I just want to try your trial, and you want my address, phone # and my credit card information.
I said forget it. Never come back to Symantec site again.

Sorry to hear that, but that's not the place where you should be looking. If you are in search of NAV or NIS 2010 30-day trial from the Norton site, then go here

Sometimes it's tough to look for free and even trial nowadays.
If you go to www.grisoft.com, I couldn't even find the free version of AVG.

Usually I don't download any programs from the developer's website...I prefer to download it from sites like Softpedia, CNET Download.com, Majorgeeks, and FileHippo. My personal favorite is Softpedia...it usually has the most updated/newest version as compared to the rest.

I avoid downloading from developer's website because of these reasons:

    1) Some ask you for email address
    2) Some developer sites are loaded with too much ads
    3) It's hard to get the direct download link for the free version...the site 'distracts' you with the 'Pro' version...

Downloading apps from sites like Softpedia are better because:

    1) The requirements are stated clearly on one page.
    2) It's easier to see screen-shots of the program
    3) There are comments by users...that's a very helpful feature for me...80-90% of the time I read user reviews before installing a particular app.
    4) They provide their own mirrors and sometimes direct download links hosted on developer's site.
    5) And some of them, e.g. FileHippo, provide links to older version of the program...
    6) Apps are classified into categories so it's easier for you to make comparison between different 'brands'...

There you go...I suggest you make it a practice to download from 'third-party' sites...
They call me the mysterious one...
my motto is...when it's hot, chill baby
