I got KIS, why does Windows Defender come up?
I just recently installed KIS. Before, I had NIS and windows defender didnt run (well, it didnt show in the task bar).
Now I have KIS, it runs? Surely I dont need it to run cos I got KIS?
Also, how do I turn it off because I dont like my task bar to get cluttered

if you want to disable windows defender real time protection, just go to control panel, click on windows defender, then click option. you will find a lot of option under 'real time protection'.just untick the real time protection. That's all. If you want to stop KIS real time protection, just pause the protection permanently. you can't disable KIS's avp service or prevent it from runs at startup automatically,if not, your KIS won't run yet the icon will still appear(in grey colour).

in the end, to make sure it won't run/update (it conflicts with some AV, i've seen it disabling Avira guard and resident firewall on startup) go to run>services.msc, look for Windows Defender service and change startup type to disabled.

Dude....Windows Defender is not that bad you know after all....there was once Avira missed something that was malicious (I'm pretty sure it was) but Windows Defender "came to the rescue"....since then I just thought of leaving that alone (previously I wanted to remove it from my start-up like you)
They call me the mysterious one...
my motto is...when it's hot, chill baby

Windows Defender has also made short work of a trojan I had once.
You can just hide it from your taskbar:Right click an empty space on the taskbar. Now click, Properties, Taskbar, Customize, and look under Current Items, click under Behavior an item you wish to hide. You will then have the option to change how this icon appears by clicking the V and looking at the options.
