    How to uninstall OS Vista without having to reformat hard drive?

    The hard drive has Vista OS and 300GB of other stuff. I don't want to reformat hard drive because I will lose 300GB hard to find . Can I uninstall OS Vista only?

    I assume you're saying that the 300GB of stuff/data is on the hard drive itself where Vista OS is installed...in that case, if you uninstall Vista, you'll lose that 300GB of data if you do not make a backup of it...

    Make a partition to dump it into and you'll have a better chance of keeping your data. It's not flawless, but it works sometimes.

    If you're just intending to install vista again or windows 7 then during the install process if you choose not to reformat the HDD it'll move all the data from your previous install into Windows.old in your root drive. it would take an awful long time to move 300gb but i do that rather than actually making another partition, i already have like 4 partitions.

    There's no way to uninstall Windows. What you can do is perhaps make another partition, install another Windows on that new partition. Boot up the new windows and then delete whatever you don't need on your old partition.

    It is always advisable to create another partition to store your data.

    I managed to transfer 300GB data to another computer. I will use the hard drive for backup only.
