MSE and Automatic Updates
Hi I'm running XP Pro, legit ofc, and was wondering if I can somehow turn off automatic updates but still let MSE to update itself? I hate that yellow shield in the tray (and yes I know I can hide it) and the wuauclt process in my processes tab.

No of course.
You may try to open MSE GUI and click on "Check for updates" manually.
Or simply turn on again Automatic updates.
I hope it helps"If you really want something in this life, you have to work for it. Now, quiet! They're about to announce the lottery numbers..." - Homer Simpson

It is not recommended to turn of MS Auto-update*
If you want regular MSE auto-update, configure MSE Schedule scan setting to daily. It will update defs. then process auto-quick scan at a given selected time of day..."positive anything is better than negative nothing"

You can set MSE to check for updates more than once a day by doing a registry change.

What you don't know about MSE Updates.
All Updates will be downloaded into Windows Update and be Downloaded whether you have set Automatic Updates to warn you first.
They will not appear in add-remove.
But if you go to view update History and you have used MSE for a while you will be in for a shock with all of the MSE updates on it.
You cannot remove the updates as they are permanent.
Even when you remove MSE the updates remain.
It will also open Windows Defender if you have closed it in Services.
Those things I have mentioned are not meant to put you off using MSE just to let you know what happens to your updates.
I have personally removed it and am now using AVG again as I can see no reason why they should put all updates in Windows Update and not allow you to remove them even when you remove MSE.

If that is the issue, it won't be a problem to me. By default MSE sig updates are part of Windows Updates.

I am using task scheduler to update MSE on system startup by following instructions given here. I just modified so that MSE updates starts 2 minutes after system startup and only when network connection is available. I think to use task scheduler in xp, the account you log in should have a password.
