Hi
I'm having this weird problem. I'm unable to open www.gmail.com, mail.yahoo.com, www.orkut.com in firefox. I get the following error:
login.yahoo.com could not be found. Please check the name and try again.
The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.
* Did you make a mistake when typing the domain? (e.g. ww.mozilla.org instead of www.mozilla.org)
* Are you certain this domain address exists? Its registration may have expired.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check your network connection and DNS server settings.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.
I tried using IE and I had no problems visiting these web sites. I concluded that there must be some problem with firefox. But then I tried using K-Meleon to visit these sites and I got the same error message. So, I have no idea where the problem is. Any help!!!
Regards

Try changing your DNS to OpenDNS. Refer to this page on how to change your DNS to use OpenDNS.
https://www.opendns.com/start
That should fix the problem in loading gmail, yahoo and orkut.

Hi Raymond
Thanks for your prompt reply. I tried what you mentioned but it didn't work. The site just made me change my preferred and alternate DNS servers and create a new account on that site. I tried visiting the gmail, orkut and yahoo mail but it didn't work.
I then replaced my firefox profile with my friend's profile found in: C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles. Now surprisingly I was able to load yahoo, gmail and orkut in firefox!!!
I am still unable to visit these sites through K-Meleon. I am studying in a university and am behind a NAT. I use proxy servers to connect to the internet. My friend (i copied his firefox profile) who is studying in the same college has never faced this problem. Any other solution?
Thanks

Since you're saying there's a problem with the profile, have you tried deleting Firefox and reinstalling again?
By the way, after changing to OpenDNS, you'll need to run the command ipconfig /flushdns, and also reboot your computer.
