Thread: Modem log
- 03-16-2008 #1
My modem creates a log file which easily grow to 1Gig in a day if I spend most of the day online - like I normally do.
As the software doesn't have an option to turn logging on or off, I have switched it off in the Registry. The problem is every time I restart my machine I have to redo it as the key was reset to 1.
Can anybody please tell me how to make this setting permanent, as I'm getting really PO with this BS.I refuse to tip toe through life only to arrive safely at death

Try this.
Make the changes in your registry to turn off logging. Export the Key and save it to a name, maybe offlog.reg
You can then command your computer to automatically run offlog.reg whenever you boot up Windows.
You can copy the reg file to Startup folder, Start > Programs > Startup.

just curios.. how come a log can be up to 1 gig

It logs every activity of the modem even its connections to the local machine and its activity on the port it is listening.
When you open the log you find a number of entries for each second the modem was active.

If you now consider the fact that my modem is active for 14 hours a day on average, you should be able to calculate the actual log file size.

the developer should have make a function to enable the user to set the log maximum size or otherwise it would be a waste of hdd space .. lucky it can be turn off using registry
