Hi Raymond,
I have been reading with your blog for a few weeks, now.
I must say how impressed, I am, by your concern for so many people who write to you with their many and varied problems.
Your patience and knowledge in answering so many of their questions is so vast that it must exhaust your time energy and forbearance. I really admire you and your work. Thank you.
I am a disabled chap on the way to being 60, who is not very experienced with puters.
I have a question or problem I would like to ask your advice upon please.
When I have installed either Azureus or utorrent previously I was advised to Portforward, however my IP settings are assigned automatically, therefore I am stuck to know what to do? Can you advise me please.

If you have a router, please head over to this site:
http://portforward.com
Note: a router is a modem that has 4 or more ethernet ports. A normal dsl modem is described where phone line is connected to it and it should only have one ethernet port. Some users have 2 in one, thus 4 ports or more is the easiest way to describe it.
1. Find the router you are using
2. Find the sofware you are using.
3. Follow the tutorial.

Thanks for your kind comment mikkimonkki.
Zepxs has got you covered. Most important is to know how to access your router if you're using one. Usually the manual will show you how.

O.K. Thank you very much for replying.
I have a Virgin cable modem, with 1 ethnet port and 1 cable screw in for Virgin. However my wifes laptop is also connected to the Virgin modem via her router which has 4 ethnet ports.
I do not want to use her puter for p2p sharing. So because, I do not have a router, can you help me to find how to find the right port??
So sorry if I seem a bit slow? I am really confused on all of this! Can you help?
Thank you

If you're on a direct connection to Internet using a modem, and not router, you don't need port forwarding.

unless of course your modem has firewall and the like and the same port forward site will work

Thank you for all of your kindness and help in answering my questions.
However I have another, It is linked to my first question, so hopefully it I am right in asking the question here, in the General Forum.
I have just installed Azureus and when I try to connect, "Nat test" I am told there is an error as the port # they give me, times out after 20secs, probably because the port is closed.
Can someone advise me please, the procedure in finding the correct port?
I use Kaspersky Internet Security, with an attached firewall.
Thank you in anticipation.

Ah, most probably Kaspersky is blocking it.

Hello Raymond,
Thank you for answering my question.
However, I paused Kaspersky whilst I nat tested, and I have switched off Windows firewall too, yet there is still an error.
I also included azureus in the exceptions of the firewall also.
Did this sound O.K. ?
