Thread: USB problem
- 05-19-2008 #1
I have a 4 GB Toshiba USB stick. When I insert it into the USB port of my laptop I get the following warning - This device can perform faster . . . ". I tried it on my desktop I got the same warning. I can say that the USB stick worked on both PCs at one point in time and I never got this pop up. And then for some reason, this problem pops up. Is there a driver problem or is it something else? Also the LED on my USB stick keeps glowing all the time as if some process is continuously accessing my USB. I checked up the running processes and I didn't find anything suspicious. I also found that the policies for my USB device was changed to "Optimize for quick removal" and I changed it back to "Optimize for performance" but I still continue to get the pop up.
Any help?

Your Laptop does not have HIGH speed USB connection thats all. If you did not have this problem before than there must be some internal windows problem

Try this Goto BIOS and check if the USB setting is set as Hi-Speed.

Also, why is the pop up being shown even on my desktop? I'm using my desktop after around 4 months since I don't study in my hometown and I'm sure that nobody has played with the USB settings in my absence. This has me confused as to whether the problem is with some OS settings regarding USB or if my USB stick has gone bonkers?? I have an external USB seagate 250 GB HDD and I don't get this pop up when I connect it to any of the USB ports on my desktop or laptop.
Still looking for a solution...

I updated my drivers but to no avail, still getting the same pop up and the data transfer rates are very poor. I used the same USB on my friend's new Compaq V3000 but the same message popped up. I'm sure he has the latest drivers because we downloaded them from the compaq website before trying out my USB. So I guess we can safely rule out the possibility of having outdated drivers. So what next then? Should I try and change some of the properties of the USB stick (if yes, then which property) or... I don't know... suggestions are always welcome :)
Thanks and regards
