Hello, my Lacie External 500GB HDD was working fine then the next day i try and use it wen i switch it on it makes a strange noice and my Pc dont find it i tryed this on 5 different Pcs also tryed 2 different Ac adapters and 3 differnet usb leads but no luck, Does any one know how i can get the data off of this as it is very important. Also the fan dosent seem to be working now but i wouldent think the fan not working would stop the pc from reading what is on the HDD i dont think it has been droped or anything and if it did drop it would only drop from the hight of a computer tower i contacted the manufatures but they said they could repair it if it in under the warrenty period which it is but im not to worried about it getting repaired just need to data off of it and they said they couldent help get the data off and i wouldent rly want to sent it bk to them as it has quite a lot of dogy stuff on it :P Does any one know a way i can do this maby if i took out the HDD and put it into a hard drive case maby? or something if any one has any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks in advanced. :(

Actually if I am not wrong, the hard drive can be taken out and plugged in to your computer. You should see your data IF the problem is on the enclosure and not your hard drive.

However, you must consult the manufacturer first before doing that because it will void your warranty.

Many years ago I've read article saying that there is a little chance that you can revive your dead hard drive. Some of the steps are freezing your hard drive and etc...

If you have important data and you think that your hard drive is screwed, you can using those last resort methods.

    Read about it here:

Okay, best of luck to you bubblemanx.

Once you get it detected, quickly copy your important files out before it dies again.
