My pc can't detect the external HDD. I plug the USB cable in to the system but nothing happen or detect it and when i pull out and plug in again, i got a notice on the traybar;

Found New Hardware
A problem occured during hardware installation. Your new hardware might not work properly.

The Hard disk case i bought it today which it is new but the hard disk (40GB) is from my old pc.

I guess it might be the case. It once happened to me. I bought a very cheap external hdd enclosure which cost only US$3. First time works. But when I tried to connect again at a later time, I get the same error as what you get.
Then I took out the hard drive from the cheap case and put it in a better case that I have. Works like a charm. In my experience, never buy a cheap external hard drive enclosure.
