hi, I wonder if any one can help me, i;m at the end of my tether!!
I have a Canon MP600 (printer, scanner, copier) and cannot use the scanner bit, but everything else works. But i definately know that its not the canon thats faulty as i took it to a friends computer and installed it there and it was fine. So its something to do with my computer (I think in the Registry).
I have downloaded a new driver for the scanner from canon website, but still same problem. I have tried to update the driver within the Device Manager, all to no avail.
When I re-installed it from my software disc I got with the printer, its seems to all be installed ok, then a bubble pops up on the bottom taskbar, saying ' An error occured during installation your hardware might not work properly'.
I tried using the scanner with MP Navigator which is the canons software to do the scanning, copying, etc that you want by computer, rather than pressing the buttons on the printer. I get the message, 'cannot connect to scanner. Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged'.
I have spoke with Canon themselves and they cannot help as we know its not their product which is faulty.
I am using a Dell Dimension 5150 desktop pc with Windows Xp. I find it strange as it used to work and now it just doesn't. I dont know whether my hubby might have deleted something from the computer not realising it would cause problems.
Has anyone any idea, on what could be missing/incomplete or damaged.
thanks in advance:(

I would uninstall the program, clean the registry with ccleaner ( http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloading ) and then re-install it.
PS. You didn't read the rules did you? :rolleyes:I refuse to tip toe through life only to arrive safely at death

I do have a Canon all in one printer and never had any problems with the drivers. Make sure your printer is connected, go to Device Manager and check if there are any exclamation marks.
Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager

hi odie,
thanks for your reply, i have done what you said and still no change. An error occured during installation, I get this message even if i install by just plugging usb in, it finds hardware, etc when its finished and i get the message even if i install it by the disk i got with it.
I dont know what else to try. The other message is saying there is something incomplete or damaged in the registry.

First I would uninstall the software using the "Add/Remove Programs" then reboot. If you have a registry repair or registry cleaner program installed then run this to repair the registry. www.xprepair.com / http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloading. Reboot when repairs have been completed. Shutdown any "Background Running Programs" ie firewalls, antivirus etc. Plug in the USB cable from your printer but DO NOT turn the printer on. Insert your cd-rom software disc and follow the on-screen instructions. Turn on the printer when asked to do so. When software installed remove cd-rom disc and reboot the computer. Go to your control panel and select your new printer as the default. If the problem still exists insert your system disc and carryout a "System Repair". This will reinstall any missing or damaged system files.

hi chunky
Thanks for your reply. I have tried everything you have said, including dowloading the ccleaner, rebooting, i've even re-run 2 i have on my desktop, regcure and regseeker. Re-running my printer from the software, when i tells you to connect your printer. I've done it the other way from my Device Manager and tried uninstalling from there, then re-installing it and updating device driver from there. But get the message about the configuration information in the registry being incomplete or damaged(code19).
I also got out my system disks and ran the diagnostics utility, it brought up a couple of error but not that i could see that would affect my hardware.
Its going out the window shortly, been on like this for about 3 weeks, just keep trying it,etc.

I'm not sure about this one.
The printer & copier is working but the scanner does not start, device manager does not label this device as a problem device, all drivers is installed and up to date, the initial software was uninstalled and the registry cleaned, the software was correctly re-installed so the configuration in the registry should be right even if it was not before. The bloody thing should work. Personally I would look at the entries in the registry but are reluctant to advise you to do this, as you easily can do more harm than good and would therefore like to get Ray's opinion on this first.

hi, the whole thing works on my friends computer, so i know it must be something wrong in my computer.
It is showing a problem in the device manager registry, a yellow question mark, but when i go into it and try and update drivers from there or scan for hardware changes or even uninstall then reinstall it still comes up with the yellow question mark
I lost as well. I might be a woman but i'm usually quite good at things like this, but this has got me stumped.

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (code 19).
This is what i cannot understand, i;ve done the reg cleaners etc, used my system diagnostics, it had a fault come up with the audio and one with my cd drive but nothing to do with the printer???/
