Thread: DVD/CD RW cannot burn
- 06-03-2008 #1
Hi,
I have this major problem which I'm very very pissed about it. Going in point form. I'm going to write it nicely so I don't have to answer all those questions that were actually asked by myself and other people.
Note: I just want to say that this problem occurred last year, and I've still no solution to solving this. I thought after purchasing a new combo drive (DVD/CD RW), my problem would be solved, but actually it did not solved
Problem:
1. DVD/CD RW cannot burn CD's.
2. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't
Solutions that I've done:
1. My first solution was uninstalling all burning softwares, that includes:
- Drag'n Drop (comes with toshiba)
This is the only software that I had before installing other crappy burning softwares.
2. Going on, I've no solution of what is going on. I decided to sent my laptop to Toshiba for service; At first the technician said it was software problem. In return I said it couldn't be, as the software came bundled together with the laptop when I first bought (and yes, this didn't happen before, never ever). Until then, he ordered a change for my laptop's combo drive (DVD/CD RW)
3. Thus, a new model of combo drive was installed:
Model - MATSHITA UJDA750 DVD/CD RW
The same problem occured; the technician got scolded and a third attempt to service my laptop. For the third time, it seems to have been fixed. I'm unsure, but it seems that I've been burning another type of CD (a cheap and nameless brand) until today, I'm burning Verbatim brand CDs
The above were all events on year 2007, below is what I just did today.
4. Reformat Laptop (I'm using Toshiba Satellite A40)
- I'm not very sure, but I did reformat my com and tried using windows burning software, it did worked, but probably by chance. I just reformatted my laptop today. The very same problem happened.
I'm really pissed but it's really one big problem that couldn't be resolved!
Below links are all and what I've found over the internet. They are backdated and contains no solution, however, these people have exactly what I'm facing. They fail to burn their CD-Rs and it's actually possible to burn CD-RW without any problems!

I'm desperate for a solution to solve this, thanks! Going back to Toshiba would be no help, I've spent almost RM 1000 on just changing a combo drive; don't ask why, but it's still painful.
Regards,
Zepx

I understand your frustration Zepxs as I once had a laptop with overheating problem and auto restart but they never fix it. Crap!
My question.
1. Have you installed any burning software after reformatting?
2. Did you reinstall using the recovery disc and it auto installs Drag'n Drop?
3. Who is the developer of Drag'n Drop? Is it Roxio?

Yep, I'm very very frustrated.
Either way,
1. Ok, I just reformatted for the 2nd time after completing the download for SP3. Nope, no software installed this time except for the come-together-bundled Drag'n Drop. Again I can't burn. The funny thing is, I see a Roxio.inc trademark after failing to burn with windows build in recorder, though I fail to burn with it, but I could burn my files with Drag'n drop.
This is what I get, can you check if you have this roxio.inc thing? I still have it even after reformat.

2. Yeah, it auto installs Drag'n Drop.
3. Drag'n Drop is by DigiOn;
Right now, I suspect there is problems with Roxio's installation. I'm still not sure how to fix it.Developer:
