I can't play old(very old) games on my dual core computer

When I play old games my cpu goes 50%. i even set affinity for old games to run only on one processor but still nothing.I am running win xp sp3 with directx 10
Another thing:when i play the game infestation(2000) the cpu goes 50 and when i press start the game lags to hell!

which games? Before 1994 (that's very old for me) simply download dosbox and run the game from it (dosbox is a program that emulates 286-486's dos).
tried to run it in compatibility mode? (98 shold be the best)

Windows XP doesn't have Direct X 10 but Direct X 9
