Sabayon Linux 4.1 GNOME released - Linux Guru Note

Change of heart, Sabayon isn't my happy medium. Looks like I'm staying with Ubuntu. Maybe Debian if I'm feeling really nerdy

I last used Ubuntu version 7.4 if I remember right and I found that to be very hard to understand how to use...is the newest version any better?

Yeah, there are lots of changes. New version of kernel, gnome, softwares, notifications, better hardware detection, wubi installer etc.

Ubuntu is not hard, try it. If you got any problems, post here. We will try our best to help you

ubuntu is pretty easy. Sabayon looks like it has KDE. Wonder if it will run on a 384 MB RAM.

Does it have precompiled packages? I dont want to compile them myself.

Sabayon wouldn't run on 384 mb ram. Puppy Linux would though. Both require some compiling skills, though, Puppy less then Sabayon. I was going to go to Sabayon until I tried it. It's a good OS, based of Gentoo... but it doesn't seem to cooperate as well as Ubuntu does.

And I used Ubuntu 7.10 first, wasn't a fan of it either Zen. But With 8.04, I snapped it up and now know a fair amount. I wouldn't call myself a Guru, but I've learned a lot more then any nerd/geek I know offline so I guess it's suiting

Considering the fact that I dont know how to compile tarballs, it will take a long, long time before I manage to make it an usable operating system.

Indeed. But once you learn, it will come quickly.
