    A Doubt about ubuntu

I am using windows for a long time and in addition to xp i have installed ubuntu now.but there is a problem when i boot into ubuntu i cant play any mp3 audio files and i need to convert them to ogg format for playing it on ubuntu.
Is there any other way to play mp3 files directly in ubuntu.its very annoying to convert all my music files to ogg format as it occupies additional space.
If anyone knows a way please suggest me.

Ubuntu don't distribute software to support proprietary media formats for licensing issue. So, you've to install them.

Open the Terminal, and execute the following command:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
Now you play MP3 as well as some other formats.

I just use VLC . It's free and rarely lags (only on huge video files).

Open Terminal and execute this command: sudo apt-get install vlc

    or

Open Add/Remove> search for "vlc" > right click on it and mark for installation.

Also, you should have been able to click open, then it would have given the option to install them.
