If windows is your favourite Ammature Programmer, you will always remain an amature programmer, haha juts joking but you wont' get far. You shold try linux though, if not in a dual boot, then just in a regular virtualbox session.

I would recommend you to try installing in a USB Pendrive(4GB required) atleast.

I am sure you will have lot of fun.

Honestly I started learning a lot about my system only when I switched to linux.

Now I am using both Win7 and Linux Mint in my laptop.

I have Linux installed on my laptop and Windows XP running in Virtualbox.
There is only 1 app that I use that doesn´t run on Linux/Wine, so VB is good enough, no need to pollute my laptop further with dual boot.

I still need Windows for my wireless, but when I upgrade to 10.04, the next LTS, I'm going to set up it's wireless and not update anymore until the next LTS for my laptop.
