Can some one give me there thoughts of using alien, reason i ask is came across a software that did not come in a .DEB format. So i had the option to make from source or use a .RPM using alien.

So all i really want to know is alien any good, it does sound great but i would like some feed back 1st before trying it.

Considering there is no alternative, either use Alien or use nothing, it does the job.

It's not perfect, nothing is, but if you absolutely have to have that RPM in DEB and don't want to compile from source, give it a try. The worst thing that will happen is it won't install.
