Looking for Tejano Music
Hi friends,
I hope someone here can help me out. The wife and I have been sending care packages to our troops (from us) to iraq and afganistan for some years now. We just picked-up a new solder a few weeks back and one of his requests was Tejano music (spanish music). My question is does anyone no of any place that I can download this kind of music, so I can burn to cd (legally of course). So I can send it to him. Tks.

"Tejano" is "TEXICAN", music in Spanish by Mexican Americans in Texas. One of the older. classical performers of this is Freddy Fender (although most of his was in English, and more Tex-Mex than true tejano). Most likely avail on YouTube. Linda Rondstadt is another. Her albums were mostly country (in English), but being Mexican born, she also did some albums in Spanish. At one time, she was the live-in friend of California's governor (Jerry Brown). Selena is considered the queen of tejano. I am sure he would enjoy some of her music.
EDIT: While most of us from the southwest of the US are very familiar with Tejano, for the rest of you, here is a very short introduction to this classical form of our local music:

Thanks Polkadot, did not realize that "Tejano" is "TEXICAN", music in Spanish by Mexican Americans in Texas. This helps me alot. When I got the request for Tejano music all he said was that it was spanish. In a since I guess it is. But knowing what It really Is and who some of the singers are helps. By the way he is from texas.

There are many groups. If you go to YouTube and search "Tejano", you will get dozens of results. Good place to start your research.
