getting enormous speed in 64kb/s cable modem connection

I have a 64 kb/s cable modem connection using 24 online client . I normally have a downloading speed of 7kb/s . but sometimes I get downloading speed upto 250kb/s without using any download manager on my firefox 3.0.10 browser

Why am i getting such high speed on a very slow connection?

Many, if not most cable modems are perfectly capable of handling a speed of 250 Kb. The reason you do not regularly get it is reportedly that the companies are watching their bandwith capacities.

Yeap, ISP throttling does not work perfectly all the time.
Different ISP implements different type of throttling method and I've read that some users were able to hack their router/modem to bypass the download speed cap.

i wouldnt ask for that because if the company finds out that u hacked the download limit cap.you will be paying Alot of fine.
and it should be quite easily to find out that u hacked or not for the company

I get the same thing, i'm meant to get 170kb/s download from my ISP but it shoots to 500kb/s and even 0.9mb/s at some moments then shoots down to 70kb/s , that my ISP traffic filtering techniques.

Nice idea, just one flaw though, your ISP would notice this and you get some real nice Jail terms if you do this kind of stuff. like any other hacking. stupid police!
