Browsers Cannot Load Images/Elements

I am on my cousin's laptop, trying to surf the web. However, it loads all text, all ads, but rarely any images. This happens in both Firefox 3.0.6 and Internet Explorer 7. I can't even get to Windows Update to update the laptop! Any suggestions?

Probably a virus or a corrupted system file/setting.
Did you try sfc\scannow?

Are you able to play flash?

Did you check if the cached images option is turned off?

Sometimes, using a proxy program can also cause this type of problem with images and flash's too. (it causes to me)

Or maybe your cousin had disabled Load images automatically ?

Nah, probably not a virus. Load images automatically is on. What is this 'cached images' option?

If the cached images are turned off, then only you can view images that are not saved in your cache. so i donot have the need to load the image again and again. It is just to save bandwidth.

But if you have the cached images option turned on, you will not be able to view the images that are not saved in your cache.

@ninja: do thumbnails for youtube videos load up?

The laptop doesn't load images from websites the laptop's browser has never been to. The thumbnails on Youtube DO load. And, after running sfc/scannow, I need an XP Pro SP2 disc, which is not available to me at the moment.

Update: I updated the laptop to SP3. Still did not solve the problem, but fixed a slow shutdown problem.
