What is LaTeX?

I've heard about it many times but never got to know what it exactly is. Can anyone give me a little review?

its good one to prepare document like project reports. its very useful when u want to print complex formula's etc etc. Have used this for my masters degree thesis. There is one more GUI tool Lyx which is built on the top of latex. Try Lyx if you dont want to learn lateX commands.

LaTeX- commonly used in math for users to write equations as such. Something worth checkin out.
