To disable services is easy (run>services.msc) but you have to be cautious not to break vmware -> it won't run.

    hi luffy
i asume it is win xp.

click start and then run, then type "msconfig" (without the ""), then klik ok.
check the 2 tabs called 'Services' and 'Startup' and look for anything called VMware.
Disable them by removing the mark in front.
By doing this, vmware will not start. You will have to enable them again to make it run.

Another free tool is called autoruns from microsoft (former sysinternals). A great tool. check it out.

Hi, forgot to tell you that it's running on Win Vista.
I have read in other forum that disable service by msconfig is not recommended.

You are right! Don't use the msconfig to disable services.

In Run type services.msc, then find the services for VMware and in Properties change them from Automatic to Manual.

Also, in VMware you have an option to disable the program from starting in System Tray.

The option says: Hide VMware in System Tray.
VMware does not have the option to disable at startup.

    Thanks guys. Problem solved.
BTW, I know how to disable services in Windows. I thought someone might know the trick to disable Vmware at startup without have to disable its services.

I don't know what version you are using, but on my VMware Workstation 6.5.2, when I change in Preferences the Show tray icon: Never, it disable VMware from startup.
