Thread: which W7 version?

which W7 version?
What plus features are there in W7 Pro and/or Ultimate (compared with Prem) that would make one spend the extra money? There is the XP mode, which looks nice, but probably won't be used much once you have become familiar with W7. What features are missing in Prem that we would dearly want to have?
Update: those who want to have kind of XP-mode in Prem W7 can use a tool like the one given away on GOTD today.Last edited by Kees; 10-09-2009 at 04:20 PM.

Thank you, Stuge. I have come across the different specifications on WWW. My question actually is about what W7 features you guys think are indispensable that are missing in the Prem(inium) version.

ultimate is knida bloated.I would prefer windows 7 home premium for office/video watching/and gaming depending on ur pc specs.
And i dont think there are any indispensable stuff missing form home premium bot locker is useless.If you want the lanugauge packs i would go for ultimate but beware its kinda bloated.Just use the what ever lanuage in home prmium from the language setting in it(its good enough if you just want to run som different languaged programs)
There aare third party backup softwares you can install.
If you want to have xp mode i think there are third party applications for this as well.If there arent just do a dual boot.Another feature that premium doesnt have is to EASILY connect with a home group and bla bla bla...But you still can use either third part apps or do it manually that should be it
I have ultimate but i rather use premium since its less bloated so i would reccoment premium if your just a standard user EG.watching videos/using office like word and other stuff/playing games or transfer media files with your portable devices.
As i said it ALL depends on your system specs
hope this helps

@Muaan
Exactly what I was thinking. If Prem is missing something, there will be lots of companies jumping to fill the gaps.

Well,I will also stick to Windows 7 HP. Extra goodies given with Ultimate are useless for me .I will never use it .

Looks like Win 7 Premium wil be more than good enough for me. I have two HDD's so I'm leaning towards doing a dual boot with XP.

If you have the required hardware, and need XP, and want to run XP virtual, you need to go to Pro or higher. The only other advantage M$ can offer to you if you want more than Home Premium can offer is if you want the free M$ 'virtual machine': it will only work on Pro, or higher. Otherwise, it is a waste of money for 90% of our users here. Some of you may need the added benefits, but most of us do not. Free third-parties will fill the voids. Unless you know of a need that is not included in Home Premium, save your money...believe me, Bill Gates does NOT need it!
