Windows 7 ultimate or discised as Vista

Been triling windows 7 ultimate and i will be reinstalling my windows xp or pro back on this is crap i thort id give it a go windows xp is far better here is a review that i came opon and i thort id share it with you gys and gals.

    The big windows 7 lie.

You've read the early reviews with comments like Windows 7 is a big improvement over Vista and Windows 7 is wicked fast. Sounds great doesn't it? On closer inspection though Windows 7 M3 (Milestone 3) is being revealed as being just a "slightly tweaked version of Vista."

When I said recently that early Windows 7 reviews based on handpicked bribes, ah high-end laptops, to reviewers and bloggers could only give results that were not a lot different from those of a rigged demo I was more right than I knew. Randall Kennedy put the Windows 7 engine on a real test-bench and discovered that, at the kernel level, "When viewed side by side in Performance Monitor, Vista and Windows 7 were virtually indistinguishable."

In case you haven't used Vista, that means you can expect Windows 7 performance to be lousy. Kennedy ran the same application performance tests comparing XP and Vista and found that Vista ran 40% slower than XP. I've said it before, I'll say it again, if you must run Windows, run XP SP3.

Application tests underlined Windows 7's more than skin-deep resemblance to Vista. Kennedy found, "In a nutshell, Windows 7 M3 is a virtual twin of Vista when it comes to performance." There are also peas in a pod when it comes to being resource hogs. Microsoft can talk about how Windows 7 will work great on netbooks and some people can claim that Windows 7 will run desktop Linux off netbooks, but Windows 7 is no more suitable than Vista is for a netbook.

I can't say that I've looked at Windows 7 nearly as closely as Kennedy has, but I've looked at Windows 7 enough to know that it's no real improvement on Vista. Ironically, the best things I can find to say about Windows 7 are the ones that make it look more like XP. UAC (User Access Control) is being loosened up, so you'll no longer have to give explicit permission every time you want to swipe your PC's nose. And, the user interface, while based on Vista Aero, locates commands in a way that has more in common with XP than it does with Vista.

What's really going on here is Microsoft's same old, same old. Microsoft is trying to pull the wool over our eyes by making Windows 7 look great in staged events and by bribing reviewers with expensive laptops. They're also trying to freeze everyone's purchase plans by making Windows 7 sound like the next great thing, so why would you want to consider say Ubuntu 8.10 or a new Mac?

The answer is that if you're sick and tired of being jerked around by Microsoft, and after Vista I would hope some of you would be, now is the perfect time to considering move to Linux or the Mac. Of course, you can keep hoping that Windows 7 will be the next great thing, but, based on what those of us who are taking a real look at what's coming, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Macs are way too expensive. As for Linux, it's more inclined to software enthusiasts. It is very customizable, secure and has lots of different incarnations but you got a lot of "homework" ahead of you as you will be part of its development.

If you are pissed of with Vista and 7's performance then stick to XP or go back to Win 98 (one my fave MS OS).

P.S. Im using windows XP home and Ubuntu 9.04 (Im no linux pro )

I'm guessing because you're using Milestone 3, you WOULDN'T see an improvement, because what I hear is that that's not Final.

I've been using Windows 7 Beta and RC and Final since they've rolled off the line. They have a major improvement in speed, stability, compatibility, and even general usability as they've progressed.

Windows 7's speed now takes instead of a minute and a half to boot on my laptop, to about thirty seconds, skipping Grub, like I've done with Vista. Once booted, everything loads faster because Windows 7 is using less CPU and less ram (It's using about 10% of my CPU on idle which is better then Vista, which took 30%, and is using about 512 mb ram idle, compared to 1.5 gigs ram.) Yes, this is using the exact same laptop. It's more effectively managing it's code.

Stability is another insanely useful thing that no one has commented on recently, but I have to because on this laptop I'm using to write this comment, I had to reinstall Windows Vista nearly every week because something broke on it. And even if I made an image to backup, it wouldn't work the way I wanted to... that's one major flaw in Vista's code. 7, I've been using, as I said, from Beta, to RC, to Final... no issues of stability. I've never had to restore my system back from any such errors I faced in Vista, and it's amazingly keeping everything working, no errors aside from one I had when I installed, that it didn't see my Marvell Wireless card... but Windows Update fixed it. And like that, I was up and going.

Compatibility... where to start? Windows XP Mode is an amazing feature if your hardware supports it, and manages to make everything run fine. And even if you don't, 7 supports a heck of a lot more out of the box then Vista ever did. I've got Second Sight working in 7 that never worked in Vista. EGATREK that works in 7 that never worked in Vista. Certain updates to my applications that never worked in Vista, all of a sudden work in 7. The only thing I've never got working in 7 that I had in Vista is GeekMenu but that's a minor thing compared to how much does work. And when thrown into comparability mode... it works FINE.

Finally, general usability. It's easier to get around 7 then Vista or XP combined. There have been a lot of people complaining about how the new layout is confusing... but if you look at the titles and the actual words, you now understand what's going on. Add/Remove Programs has been changed to Programs and Features.. which to me, makes more sense, because that now implies that you can add/remove stuff from it, as well as change how your Windows 7 works. Windows 7 Firewall is also revamped to provide better control then some third party apps do. Autoplay and Action Center... you know what they do out of the box. Ease of Access with a Wheelchair icon.. you can tell with that too.

So in general, Windows 7 is a far superior system to Windows Vista and XP. You've got to look at the picture as a whole, not as it's parts. Adding up the parts I've listed here, you'll see that it's much better then Vista, and much closer to XP then most of us expected.

Now, as for the comparisons... Ubuntu 8.10 has to be the worst thing to compare Windows 7 to. I've used it, but it's one of those 'damning' releases... it's one you wish never existed, because it proved to be stubborn, like Vista. Yes, you can tweak it... but it's no cup of tea, like 8.04 or 9.10 or 9.04 was. And comparing it to Mac... now you're comparing the Orange to an Apple, pardon the pun, and it depends on what you feel is better... I'll take the Orange any day myself.

So in short, your comments fall apart if you use the Final version, not some Milestone release... it's not hard to see they worked hard on this, and aren't trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes. If anything, they've managed to turn the horror of Vista into an actually pleasurable experience.

DISCLAMER: Before you attack me back... I'm a Linux fanboy, though and though. Windows 7, however, has managed to make me return to the Windows operating system. How's that for sponsorship?

I'm using Windows 7, Xubuntu 9.10, and AUSTRUMI, downloading a new distro by the name of 'Parsix' and hoping it's not another 'Pardus'...

Comapred to sp2, xp sp3 is a memory-hungry OS. Do a little research on Google and you'll see that there's a notable difference between em especially on Athlon processors. One thing is sure that Win 7 is able to manage the memory quiet well...

    Screw Google! Ask me!

I don't know Vista. I have been using W7P on a desktop for some months now, which is certainly superior in terms of security and memory efficiency, but last month I had to reinstall XP SP3 on my laptop and I must say, outdated or not, there is nothing quite like it. It runs faster than W7, which GUI I am starting to dislike, particularly that annoying spinning little wheel.

If you've got a stable operating system on your computer keep it.Windows 7 is a nice operating system but I saw it at my local computer store and it was the Pro version like I'm using now and it was $328.00 Can to buy.Perhaps a SP1 will be introduced to 7 and it will be better again.

XP's theme, I find annoying myself, and hard to get stuff done in... mind you, I've gotten use to the 7 modded theme.

    I've used all 3 - XP, Vista and Win7....

For performance and battery-life (if you're using laptop): WinXP
For a balance of looks and performance:Win7 (it's like XP and Vista combined into one)

I know there's lots of hatred for Vista...but one thing you guys must realize is that Vista IS the predecessor of Win7...if it wasn't for the fact that Vista existed, then Win7 wouldn't have been as highly praised by the media now..

I suggest everyone who continuously bash Windows Vista to read this:

Windows 7 is what Windows Vista should have been?

And yes, while you're there, why not take a look at this thread I started (which unfortunately had no single response)...I guess people missed it somehow...

I'm beginning to have respect for 4SysOps

I luved windows xp pro SP1, SP2 and then SP3.

I then installed Vista HP x86 and enjoyed that also.

I did not like the name 'Vista' XP second edition would had been nicer.

I am on Windows 7 Professional x64 and it is far better than XP and Vista.

If you guys don't want your licence keys then give them to me, I know a few users that

    would enjoy a free version.

Windows 7 is the best ops (operating system) so far.
