This is very weird. What should be my line of action?
Just purchased a assembled computer msi mother board(nvidia chipset),core 2 duo processer,1 GB ram for some one i know. I plugged it in everything work perfectly. But when i tried to shutdown after checking everything computer just restarts. I have to hold power button to close computer nothing works other than that?

Thing i have thought of doing to eliminate problem
    1)Looking at the event viewer
2)Updating the driver for a Epson LX-300+ dot matrix printer can it be a culprit?
3)OK i will just completely reinstall the XP the new one with SP3
    4)What else can i do?

May be it is just some problem with the assembly of the computer? Can it be a power supply problem?

It is turning out as a monologue forgive me for that hoping for some clues guys??:)

I don't think it's a power supply problem. Try booting to safe mode, and then shut down the computer. See if you still have the problem. If yes, one of the drivers or software is causing it.

You can also try repairing windows.

    What is your OS XP?.
Try uninstalling your printer and printer software as a starting point. You may have to manually shutdown to complete the uninstallation. Reboot and then see if you can shutdown as normal. If ok reboot and reinstall your printer and software as per Epson instuctions.
After rebooting go to the Device Manager and see if there is a yellow !. If there is select your printer and on the page click Update Driver and select internet. This should install the latest driver for your printer from Epson.
I see that this printer could have 1 of 3 connection interface. Parallel, Serial or USB. Which on do you have?

may be u should give this a try if your problem persists after reinstalling xp sp3.

    http://www.download.com/SuperFast-Sh....html?hhTest=1

Also somewhere there's a option called "When I Press power button" or "When I Press power button" in XP - i don't knw where it is as i use vista. may be for time being u should change the option to "Ask me What to do"

Also, you may try disabling "Automatically Restart" in case system hangs option in XP.

Glad to hear it was the Epson driver causing the problem.
Have you reinstalled the printer and updated the driver?

Yes i have chunky bro but this is a very old printer apparently a dot matrix. My client is a lawyer so he has to print a lot of legal papers. he does not want to get rid of it no matter how much i try to convince.

Too much of generation gap between computer and printer and too much of a problem for me.
