Hmm I wonder how true is this? Why does a virus requires setup.exe from system32?

it might be a tell tale for many viruses, but doubt that it is all inclusive.

I can name several viruses that do not work this say, but I'll leave it to testers, like Eicar, to be the most important ones.

I haven't tested it on setup.exe but these days Windows won't allow changes to critical System files without warning the user. Hence the reason many virii create files with names similar to system files like svchosts.exe where the system file is svchost.exe.
Personally I never came across a virus which changed or disabled the setup.exe file and I also can not think of a legitamate reason for a virus to do that. In my opinion the method described might hold true for simple virii which targeted earlier versions of Windows but surely can not be used as a reliable method to determine whether your system is infected or not.
