Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite 2009
i bought this suite at the last promotion they had this month but i am find it hard to learn e few tricks about it . it lacks the flash scanning ability and when it does scan a file or folder it scans for viruses first and then for spyware which i really don't like and understand . Can someone give an opinion about this suite. I know it is heavy. Thanks in advance Gery

About your question on Scanning stuffs ~ ZA are using two scanning engines
1.ZA Antispyware ( own engine )
2.Kaspersky 6 AV Engine ( might be updated to 7 or 8 )

In terms of speed ~ It is really slow and the perfomance is not quite that good. Scanning method is also defferent - Most of the scanning engine use by top notch suites are mostly hybrids incorporating ( Antispyware/Antivirus ) + other antimalware modules nto one. Anyway since its using KAV technology you dont have any problem with its on demand detection capability.
It's main core - Firewall is rock solid though it's not the best in the competition check COMODO and OnlineArmor firewall tests.
For me the main weakness of this suite is = Performance IssuesLast edited by ceyfer; 04-25-2009 at 05:15 AM.

I'm using the new Exteme version of it.
Its sometimes heavy but they recently updated it and it seems to run a lot better then a month ago. Version 8.0.298.35 is the present version but it is still using Kasperky engine 6.
I find it sometimes crashes ones computer browser as they added this browser thing into it.
If anything I'd say its an improvement on the last few months but its scanning takes a long time to complete. Hugs Silk40dd

Scanning takes about 90 minutes while AVG pro takes more then 140 minutes so it is not too slow. but when i scan my usb it says ZA Antivirus scan . does that mean there is no antispyware check? .And when a full scan is accomplished it is divided into two different sections AV and AS scanning .

and i am really confused

For technical reason u should go to support forum
http://forums.zonealarm.com/zonelabs/
Anyway if that is the standard way of scanning ( feature ) thats it.
It is divided because of the two scanning engines since they're not integrated into a single engine instead they do per batch scan method )
This is the scanning process
[FILE] = /( AS Scanning )/ + /( AV Scanning )/ = Result
Also KAV AV scanner is much powerful than its ZA AS scanner **
You dont need to be confuse just be familiar with ZA Suite FeaturesLast edited by ceyfer; 04-25-2009 at 06:22 AM.

I agree with ceyfer regarding the forum-very helpful. It even automatically generates return posts from their data base relevant to your post in addition to user feedback. As for the utility itself,I find it very hungry.Look in task manager and watch it's(ZA) main component vsmon.exe grow like a weed while you work or play.I had gotten the suite as a freebie about six months ago for my daughter's PC not realizing it was a very bad fit for her measly 512MB of Ram.It's kept her clean but at considerable cost in terms of resources. The firewall is one of the best, but the whole utility is very "hands on" in terms of setting it up so it doesn't annoy the hell out of you.Hopefully, that extra Gig of Ram I just got will help.
There is NO substitute for cubic inches

how heavy is the suite on ram please

A little bit lighter than PC Tools Internet Security.

I've seen vsmon.exe grow to over 70,000K in task manager.Just shut it down and restart it-it will return to @ 20.000K-but it will start growing again.
