As secure as you can be...

I know this has probably been discussed numerous times before, but with current vendors getting better and better I thought Id reopen the topic...

We all know that its best to have numerous defences on our computers... i.e dont have all our eggs in one basket, total security, norton 360, yadayada...

If we were to create the ultimate security package built from seperate components what would you choose...

they can be either free or paid versions...

what would you have for AV (realtime scanner), firewall, spyware etc.. please add anything important that ive probably not thought about...

    thanks in advance

    Personally?

Linux. All you need is a firewall (gUFW) and you're set. No viruses, no malware. Only rootkits... and that, the firewall would block for you. Or if you don't want to mess around with ports, use a router.

Failing that, if it has to be based on Windows, ESET AV/ Comodo Firewall/ Winpatrol/ COMMON SENSE. And maybe a router.

I can't stress common sense enough. I've had people that use every program out there (like my aunt) and she still gets infected, because she runs files that look like music files, but are actually executable files. First things I do under Windows: turn UAC to an acceptable nag limit. Next thing? Show extensions on the files. These two provisions ALONE have saved my ass several times.
