I remember posting something about this when Vundo started encrypting files, and I believe at that time I said something about this becoming a standard. I hate to say it, but this is a damned case of 'I knew it was going to happen'.

This was been my constant case against DRM, that if they kept using it, people WILL find a way of encrypting data and really killing off the idea... hopefully, this is a good example of what I've been trying to say.

These rogueware authors are really smart people. Blocking access to almost everything except for internet broswer...it's almost as good as sending Windows to its grave. Home users would be crying out blood if they were to face such things...what a terrible place this world has become to be.

The only thing we can do??? Fight back and try to stay secure always.

Hopefully, we can get a cure for it soon... but it won't stop everyone, because not everyone updates files.. look at Conficker, and how well it infected people.

I've seen alot of "ramsomware & scare tactics" screen pages during my rogueware testings. The above screenshot was the most neatest.

Yeah I remember now, I was attacked by a rogueware once last year around June (I didn't know of raymond.cc then) and everything was blocked, including my command prompt, task manager, registry editor, etc. I had Avast Antivirus then and it went nuts by detecting over 40,000 viruses! (probably that was when I started hating Avast) On my desktop there was a html file which lead to something called PC-Security Suite Pro and whichever address I typed on my browser it redirected to that rogueware page, with a screen popping up to inform me that my pc was infected (bless them) and only they knew the cure and I had to download that rogueware.

Hopefully I didn't download and ran an antivirus scan with Avira free. It detected two rogues in my system, and guess who one of them was? Vundo

I accept: An infected PC will leave the owner unable to open documents, run programs or carry out any tasks. They will then typically see a series of warnings about the infection, along with instructions to buy an anti-virus product called Total Security 2009, which is charged at £74.50.
