SOURCEFIRE PARTNERS WITH IMMUNET TO DELIVER CLOUD-BASED ANTIVIRUS PROTECTION
ClamAV for Windows Leverages Power of Social Networking to Improve User Protection
COLUMBIA, Md. and PALO ALTO, Ca.,
March 2, 2010
Sourcefire, Inc. (Nasdaq:FIRE), the creators of SNORT® and a leader in intelligent cybersecurity solutions, and Immunet, the developer of next generation antivirus technologies, today announced a partnership to deliver a free, Windows-based version of the ClamAV® antivirus solution. The new ClamAV for Windows leverages Immunet’s Cloud-based Collective Immunity™ technology, linking together a user’s network of friends to identify new threats in real-time, providing instant protection across the product’s user-base.
“An estimated 50 percent of Internet connected PCs have inadequate or expired antivirus protection which leaves a sizable, and often unrecognized, vulnerability to malicious code. By partnering with Sourcefire we’re able to bring real-time protection to the large ClamAV user-base and protect customers more effectively than traditional solutions,” said Alfred Huger, Vice President at Immunet. “The two technologies are naturally complementary. By adding the leading capabilities of ClamAV to the Immunet Cloud, we add an additional layer of protection, enhancing Immunet’s breadth and depth of threat coverage.”

immunet is certainly a good piece of av.as it is free i have installed it in all of my pcs. sometimes it caught infection faster than my bis or nis .huge cloud database community protection is the main soure of advantage of this software. in its official website they recommended that it can be either used as a stand-alone av or as an extra layer with ur current av. but as a stand-alone av it could not detect few malicious website which automatically installed .exe file in ur pc but in many cases u could notice that it may beat ur current av. i dont know how long it will be free but if company withdraw their free scheme i will certainly buy this software. use it as it take very very small amount of memory

Immunet is light on resources. However when I tried it I was little confused. I tested with eicar test file. I had antivir running realtime and it popped up and I asked it to quarantine. But Immunet also popped up saying that it had quarantined the threat. I saw the same file in the quarantine folder of Immunet as well as in antivir. How can this be possible?

They will publish a paid version with advanced features. But there will be free versions with basic protections.

I didn't had such problem while running immunet with KIS. From my past experience with Avira, I can tell that it is very fast at detecting threat, faster than Avast, KIS, AVG and many. So, may be that's the reason that they fight with each other.
Immunet is using other engines as well.
ClamAV doesn't have such huge database of 9,426,940 threats. I am sure about this because immunet catches threats missed by clamAV in my PC.Immunet has placed ClamAV into its Cloud infrastructure alongside a number of other detection technologies. By combining these technologies, and using the power of community-based protection, Immunet offers one of the most highly effective antivirus technologies on the market.Last edited by sujay; 03-06-2010 at 01:57 AM.
