    KIS, Java and multiple browsers

I was recently running the CBE version of KIS (from raymonds promo) and started noticing a lot of facebook games in particular wouldnt run. This was happening via IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari & Opera. I checked Java, flash player, etc were all up to date on all the different browsers but the problem still persisted.

Since then I decided to uninstall KIS (mainly due to a couple of infections) and went along with NIS 2010.
To my surprise, without changing any browser plugins, etc everything started working again!!!

Now this has now got me asking myself was this directly related to what AV products were running in the background? (KIS was running with all default settings, as is NIS) - if this is the case then doesnt this make choosing security protection a little more difficult as you arent able to determine how your PC will behave?

    any thoughts would be appreciated...

Kaspersky products especially the Internet Security suite is pretty strict on the computer, that's why I am only using the Anti-Virus. You should try disabling the protection one-by-one to find one which is the one that is causing facebook not to load and etc.

My main concern is what happens if the man on the street goes into a store, gets some "constructive advice" from a sales person and then gets home only to then find out that his new AV product gives him problems...

I know most vendors have trials but as I'm sure most people will agree its not really a good thing to have a whole host of different AV's installed over time on 1 PC.

Surely during beta testing the various companies should be testing them in real life situations?

Oh and for the record, my ISP gives me mcafee for free... and I have the exact same issues using mcafee as I do with kaspersky. the only two Ive used so far that havent given me hassle has been norton and avira. Even Avast slowed me down a fair bit...

Im really trying to find an alternative to Norton as Im not a fan of going with the big boys as such as I know a lot of malware creators sometimes deliberatley try to topple their products...

Any suggestions on alternatives? Is webroot any good?

Webroot's what my girlfriend is using, and if you're just doing basic browsing, it's fine.

Otherwise, I'd go for something more featured...

Have you tried ESET? Or Panda Cloud?

I'm one of those that bundles his own security suite, so it doesn't all have the same flaw.

@ hellnoire... My ultimate aim is to use layered security, Recently I had avast 5 (free) + online armor premium with MBAM as an on demand, + zemana... Problem is that they are all still causing intermittent issues with flash and java...

Ive used ESET, Mcafee, Avira, NIS, 360 (4.0), KIS, and the worst so far Trend...

What do you use for your own personal security? My internet use consits of mainly playing games on facebook, browsing forums, the odd bit of video streaming....

If that's all you're doing, you don't need layers of security... you just need a general AV and that's it.

On my laptop, I'm running ESET and Windows Firewall, with SuperAntiSpyware for backup.

The desktop is Avira Free with no firewall currently, but will have one soon.

Panda Cloud, yeah, I could recommend that.

Haven't tried Immunet yet, but I'm hoping they fixed their quarantine problem before I try them out.

A simple recipe for a nice decent curry dish (main ingredients only)

    Fish (Avira free)
Curry Powder (one firewall....heck even Win Firewall is decent enough)
Water (A good secure browser...coupled with either WOT or McAfee SiteAdvisor)
    Salt and Sugar(Common sense)

Served with rice or bread, it's finger-licking good
