Harddrive Space Dissapearing / Constantly Increasing
Hey guys, i have a problem =/. My HD space is constantly increasing even though I haven't been downloading anything. Atm it's at 1.6 GB, but that's because I cleared some stuff. Before I cleared anything it was at 400MB remaining. This started about a week ago after my WoW install, but I checked my WoW folder and it's remained at 17 gigs, where it should be.
I scanned with WinDirStat and strangely enough, it reports that my HD only has ~60GBs, when it should have ~76GB. 16 GB of wasted space seems pretty accurate to me, it should AT LEAST be at 7GB remaining, not 400MB.
HijackThis Log:
Strangely, I've had this problem before but it was due to my Anti-Virus (Kaspersky at the time, it's ESET NOD32 now.) I fixed the problem before by using WinDirStat and realizing the problem was due to Kaspersky and uninstalled it and everything worked out.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

List of things I've tried:
ESET NOD32 Scan, came up with nothing.
Spybot S&D, deleted some adware, didn't fix the issue.
CCleaner, cleared about 1GB of space but didn't fix the issue.Last edited by TerioN.; 03-02-2010 at 08:50 AM.

Okay, first and foremost, close EVERYTHING that you're running and run HijackThis by itself, nothing else running at the time, not even Firefox or iTunes or even Rainlender.
From what I see there right now, you've got a game, a bot, and Media Center open. Don't do that. Close everything down to the desktop, then post a new HijackThis log, as it should be the only thing running.

Out of my mind. I Haven't Lost My Mind, It's Backed Up On Disk Somewhere.

No I do not use Bootvis.

Strange...looking at the HJT logs...it seems like nothing is causing the problem. Have you tried going to Safe Mode and see if the same 'missing hard drive space error' occurs?
They call me the mysterious one...
my motto is...when it's hot, chill baby
- 03-06-2010 #7
Booting to safe mode and check your hard drive space from there is an option.
Even better, if you have a Windows PE disc, that would give you a more accurate result.

- 03-08-2010 #9
I did not go through the logs as I'm not good at those.
But you could check ur HDD capacity in BIOS. May be the HDD is not in good state
Alternatively:
1. did u do any windows update recently?
2. how many system restores are there?
3. did u clean windows temp folder?
4. did u clean Temp Internet Explorer folder?
5. If u use Mozilla - did u clean cache?
6. did u check if there is any unpartitioned space on ur HDD?
7. is ur HDD format NTFS/FAT?
