Ransomware - Buy Back Your Own Files

If the utility is downloaded and executed, the luckless user finds that it can "only repair one file in unregistered version":

    W32/DatDoc - F-Secure

Deceptive antivirus/utility software that pressures users into buying or installing it (e.g., infecting a computer; displaying false or alarming warnings or scanning results). Once installed, it may not function as claimed.

A new rogue that will randomly change names and include a reference to the current operating system has emerged.

On Windows Vista we have seen it use the following names:

    Lavasoft Security Center

Antivirus Vista 2010, Win 7 Antispyware 2010, and XP Internet Security 2010 are new rogues that are exactly the same program, but are shown with different names and interfaces depending on the version of Windows that it is run on

Don't fall on scareware browser traps, don't download and execute the rogueware dropper agent, and you won't even need MBAM and SAS after all.

Prevention is always better than cure.
