I think I trust my IS a bit to much but I'm not a expert on viruses so i'm not good at removing them but i did use tinywatcher to find files created by a virus once because KIS wouldn't detect it.

I don't trust my antivirus...that's why i have one installed in my pc...and something to blame if my pc get infected.

The question: Do you trust your AV ? should be: Do you trust yourself not infecting your pc? We, computer USERS most of the time, installed/copy programs and files into our pc. Whenever our pc get infected, we blame our antivirus. We forget that ONE antivirus is not enough to protect our computer from malicious files, malwares, softwares, etc. Antivirus is not enough, we also need those anti-spyware, anti-malware, anti-rootkit, firewall, etc. etc. etc. etc. We need lots, too many programs installed to be protected and yet our pc still get infected.

My son pc has no antivirus installed in his pc for many years. It does not mean he does not trust antivirus programs. His pc has no antivirus because he does not want any interference everytime he uses his pc. Like most users, several programs, games, etc. installed in his pc. He surf the internet everyday, visiting a lot of sites and forums. He has limewire and bittorrent installed and yet his pc is clean; no virus.

The bottom line: He TRUST himself that he will not infect his computer.

Great Discussion again - All of ur opinions are true just like what sir raymond says "To me, it's just an alert tool rather than total protection." also thanks for correcting the FBI saying...

Anyway AV protection is just a first line of defense... I do admit that I have secondary Av scanner apart from resident KAV - Rightnow endpoint security solution are adopting to multi-engine AV scanners - but still no avail coz it's not applicable to all Pc's due to its heavy resouce impact...

Again the right tool is Education ( right knowledge ) and common sense -

bottom line I dont always TRUST my AV - but I'm doing extra moves to protect my PC

Sophos is not appropriate for Home use - coz their solution are business centric anyway if ur system can cope with it that's fine- It's a good Av but not so popular like KAV and Norton and to name a few...

Sophos reviews just go to AV.Comparatives - Sophos AV engine is even integrated to Webroot Spysweeper

i think for the most part AV's keep our computers free of viruses and malware, it also depends on which one you use though..i'm talking in terms of kaspersky

AV is just a guard it is people who must make sure they don't get viruses. Anti-virus does help but we all need to not expect are AVs will save us from all the trouble and dilemma.
