    Norton Internet Security 2009 Setup

Wanna setup a manually model for Norton Internet Security to bypassed automatic so I can choose which program can access internet but failed . Cause it comes with many pop up windows to let me choose "allow" or "block" the program components.

How can I setup NIS to block all program as default then I can choose "allow" or "block" later?

    Norton AV 2009-can't activate

Help! We just bought Norton AV 2009 at Office Max and "installed" it, but have not been able to "activate" it. When we click on activate it tries to connect to a 'Symantec' website on the internet and says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". If I try to get 'help' on-line from Norton/Symantec, I get the same msg. "... cannot display..."!

We tried calling 1-800-927-3991 for Norton and we were on hold for 2 hours!

    Can anyone help me???

could it be that you did not give your browser the necessary rights (such as allow javascript etc.)?

    thanks! still searching..

It's wonderful that there are people out there!!! Thank you for the responses!! I have been working 'on-line' using my e-mail etc., so I believe that Internet Explorer is not in 'off-line' mode, but I will check (as soon as I figure out how).

Now I'm going to 'Google' "allow Javascript" - cuz I don't know how to check that either, I'm feeling like a real 'techo-dummy'.

    Thanks again!!

Check if the PCs connect through a proxy server. This generally happens in offices. If yes, then configure your proxy settings (as in Internet Explorer) properly in the NIS 2009 Settings option.

Cool still in a virus loop..

Thanks again for the suggestions, I'm learning a lot.

I found and confirmed that "scripting" is enabled. (yeah for me!)

I appear to be working "on-line"...

I'm not working in an office, I'm working from home on a "high-speed
    internet connection" with Cox Communications.

I'm convinced that we still have an ugly virus, as mentioned previously we tried to install Norton AV, but still can't activate it, can't even uninstall it.

Now my 'home page' says 'm.yahoo.com' instead of 'yahoo.com'.

Does anyone know any details about the trouble that Yahoo had about a week or so ago? It was on the news, but I didn't get any details.

I'm afraid that are next step may be to take the hard drive to someone to have it completely cleaned off and start over...

    Any other suggestions??

Sorry to hear that you have not got it working yet. If you suspect a virus to be the culprit then burn yourself a Kaspersky Rescue Disk (or make someone else do it) and boot from there. Raymond wrote a blog about this. Use the "search" command on this forum to find out the details. It is not too difficult.

First of all, are you able to browse the Internet or go to any websites with Internet Explorer from the computer that you're trying to install Norton Antivirus? The activation requires an internet connection.

If the computer that you're trying to install Norton Antivirus is able to browse websites, then try the following.

    1. Download HostsXpert
    2. Extract the ZIP archive and run HostsXpert.exe
    3. Click Editing > Copy to Clipboard... > Copy HOSTS File
    4. Reply to this post and paste (either right click with your mouse and select paste or hit CTRL+V on your keyboard)
