How to extract drivers from vista dvd for windows 7

yesterday i decided to do a fresh install of windows 7 ,after i had installed windows 7 my sound driver was missing and i did all the steps of backing up drivers and so on before i went ahead of the win 7 install

i used double driver to back up my drivers . but when it came to re installing missing sound drivers double driver failed to restore my sound.

so i knew the drivers was on a vista dvd but where are they and how do i extract them

    heres how.

    first download 7zip http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z465.exe

run 7zip and navigate to your vista dvd and browse to sources folder and double click install.wim

open install.win you will see 13 folders ,open folder 1 ,DO NOT extract all of the folders in install.wim you will only fill up your hard drive ,i learnt the hard way

    open then windows folder
then open system32 folder and browse for Drivers and Driverstore

now extract these two folders to your desktop and open driverstore folder ,now you can delete the temp folder you dont need it

now you need to rename all the files in folder en-US ,renaming all these files one by one will take a long time so we need a application to bulk rename these
i used Bulk Rename Utility and is a free file renaming software for Windows download here http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php first browse to C: drive \Users\"your name" \desktop \driverstore\en-US

notice how every file ends in .inf_loc we need to rename these to .inf ,take a look at next screenshot

press ctrl and A to selcet all , then in the extension box select fixed and enter .inf ,hit the rename button and your done! ,now open device manager and install your missing driver by selecting update driver and select browse my computer ,then select the driverstore folder.. job done!
