I personally believe that any popular site will get attacked by DDoS at some point. WordPress is one of the latest victim that got hit by multiple Gbps of DDoS with millions of packets per second. This can only be done by a very large botnet controlled by cyber criminals. A good antivirus should be able to protect a user from being infected in the first place and since there are over 60 brands of antivirus, not all of them are as equally good. So if a user ends up using an antivirus that doesn’t have very good detection, then his/her computer is probably part of the botnet that is attacking online services or servers without their knowledge.
The Anti-Botnet-Advisory Centre has been set up to to reduce the number of Botnet infected computers in Germany and to help affected users rid their PCs of malicious files. First of all the ISP plays a very important role in detecting certain patterns of behavior on their customer’s computer to assume that it is part of a botnet. The user will be contacted by their ISP to go through the required steps to help remove the Botnet. This initiative is to take Germany out of the Top Ten list of countries which is based on the assumption of Botnet activities… If you’re not from Germany, you can still use the free DE-Cleaner tool developed by Avira, Kaspersky and Symantec to detect any malicious malware on your computer.
