One of my best investment is the WD TV HD Media Player generation 1 (model:WDAVN00). Although it is an old model, I find it very useful as it can support playing many downloaded video files from the Internet. Most of the movies or TV series that can be downloaded on the Internet are in AVI format and WDTV plays it flawlessly. I no longer need to burn the downloaded AVI video file to DVD to watch it on TV. Recently I downloaded a video that is in MKV format and I was glad that WDTV is able to play it but somehow there is no sound.
I tried playing an AVI video file and there is sound which means the WD TV player is working fine. One thing I noticed, is that when the MKV video is being played, the TV screen shows “Chinese 1(Digital)” because it’s a Chinese movie. When AVI video being played, it shows “Audio Channel 1″. All this while I have been using RCA connector cable which consist of 3 cables (yellow for video, white and red for audio) to connect from WD TV to the amplifier. After more researching, I found out that I need another cable in order to have sound when playing MKV file on WD TV.
